EU-Republic of Korea (ROK) Aviation Partnership Project

Innovation. Partnership. Progress.

The EU–Republic of Korea Aviation Partnership Project (EU–ROK APP) is a multi-year cooperation initiative established to enhance aviation safety, regulatory harmonization, environmental protection, and operational efficiency between the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Korea (ROK). Launched with funding from the EU Foreign Policy Instrument (FPI), the project supports mutual understanding of aviation regulatory frameworks, promotes the adoption of international best practices, and strengthens institutional relationships between European and Korean aviation authorities and industries.

At its core, this APP focuses on building technical capacity and fostering regulatory alignment in key aviation domains with aviation stakeholders in the Republic of Korea. These include airworthiness and maintenance, flight operations and aircrew licensing, air navigation and ATM modernization, aerodrome operations, and environmental protection. The project involves a range of activities including technical workshops, inspector training, study visits, expert exchanges, and collaborative safety promotion efforts. Through these engagements, Korean aviation authorities and service providers gain deeper insight into European regulatory practices, while European experts benefit from strengthened access and cooperation in one of Asia’s leading aviation markets.

Ultimately, the EU–ROK APP serves as a model of effective aviation diplomacy, reinforcing the importance of shared values and high safety standards in global aviation. As the aviation industry evolves to meet future challenges, this partnership supports both regions in maintaining leadership roles while advancing harmonized, performance-based regulation and sustainability efforts.
