EASA took part in the ACI-LAC/ACI World Annual Conference 2026 held in Lima, Peru, on 25-29 September, with a strong presence led by Maria Rueda, Safety Management, Sustainability and Global Outreach Director, and Alfonso Arroyo, EASA Representative in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Maria delivered a presentation titled "New Paradigm of the Aviation Sector: how to keep Aviation safe in a changing world". It looked at how emerging technologies, sustainability goals and evolving operations are reshaping aviation risk and introduced EASA´s SRMS and our Top Safety Priorities. It also showed why international cooperation matters more than ever.

On 30 September she was invited to the Air Traffic Summit jointly held by ICAO, ACI-LAC and LACAC, and participated to the Safety / Compliance panel, alongside senior representatives of ICAO, the FAA, AFAC Mexico, DGAC Honduras and DGAC Peru. There she shared the European perspective on safety oversight, regulatory convergence and specific activities in the airport safety domain.

Beyond the conference and summit sessions, the event was a valuable opportunity for high-level engagement. Maria and Alfonso held numerous bilateral meetings with senior representatives of European and Latin American airport industry players operating in the LAC region. They also met Directors General of key civil aviation authorities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and the Dominican Republic, as well as leaders of ICAO and LACAC (CLAC).

These exchanges reinforced our existing partnerships and identified new opportunities for technical cooperation and capacity building. They also helped keep EASA visible and trusted as a safety partner across the region.
