Description

The EU funded ACT-SAF EU Africa-India Project co-organised the 2nd ACT-SAF Workshop for Africa, aiming to “Facilitating Access to Finance for SAF Production Projects”. The workshop took place in Lagos (Nigeria) between 5-7 May. NCAA (Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority) and NCCCS ( National Council on Climate Change Secretary) supported and hosted this ACT-SAF workshop, which finally gathered over 450 participants (80 onsite) from 27 African States, representing over 200 organisations and governmental departments.
Financial Institutions such as the World Bank, the African Development Bank or the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as from the private Banking sector and investment funds management companies participating in the workshop, expressed their interest and readiness of being part of the financing of SAF projects in Africa, and started to detail their plans to support the first projects being formulated in the continent.
During the workshop the participants were also able to create synergies between African countries (e.g., common interest on feedstocks not yet in CORSIA, cross-border SAF value chains) and between organisations (e.g., feedstock producers and SAF producers, or the latter with financial institutions).
Finally, ICAO together with the some of the Finvest Hub partners (i.e., IRENA, the European Commission and GIZ) presented the unfolding of this ICAO initiative that will facilitate SAF projects to access to finance and to financiers to find those projects matching their interest.
All in all, an event very much appreciated by the participants, bringing the continent one step closer to be an active part of the transformation of the aviation sector.
