ENCODE, “EASA's Noise Compliance Demonstration Evaluator”, is an MS Excel tool that can be used to calculate the noise level and confidence interval from data measured during a noise test performed in accordance with Chapter 10 of ICAO Annex 16, Volume I. The tool validates each individual test run against the limitations for environmental conditions and performance.
With the objective to streamline the noise certification of light propeller-driven aeroplanes, EASA is making ENCODE available to applicants wishing to verify their noise level calculations before they submit those for EASA approval. Applicants may also use it to share their noise test data with EASA as part of the certification process in addition to and in support of the required noise test report.
The current version of ENCODE is based on the Standard and Recommended Practices (SARP) of ICAO Annex 16, Volume I, and guidance material in the ICAO Doc 9501 (Environmental Technical Manual – ETM), Volume I. ENCODE provides one implementation of the SARP, which is not entirely prescriptive, and is therefore considered as guideline.
