Description
EASA is organising a workshop for U-Space Service Providers (USSP) about electronic conspicuity of uncontrolled manned aircraft operating within U-space airspace in Europe.
The aim of the workshop is to:
- Present a draft strategy for manned aircraft to become electronically conspicuous in U-space
- Validate the proposed strategy against USSPs' plans for ground infrastructure needed to support their services
- Identify areas, which may require further clarification, assessment, or research.
Background and scope:
On April 22, 2021, new Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/666 amending Regulation (EU) No 923/2012 as regards requirements for manned aviation operating in U-space airspace has been published. The point (c) of SERA.6005 contains the following new requirement for manned aircraft operating within U-Space:
SERA.6005 Requirements for communications, SSR transponder and electronic conspicuity in U-space airspace
(c) U-space airspace
Manned aircraft operating in airspace designated by the competent authority as a U-space airspace, and not provided with an air traffic control service by the ANSP, shall continuously make themselves electronically conspicuous to the U-space service providers.
EASA has been tasked to draft the Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) and Guidance Material (GM) to U-space regulation, including to this new SERA requirement.
The outcomes of the workshop should allow EASA to draft Acceptable Means of Compliance and Guidance Material in such a way that on the one hand it would allow airspace users to comply with SERA.6005 (c) in a most affordable manner and at the same time, it will provide the USSPs with the minimum data required for safe management of the U-space airspace.
A more detailed agenda will be provided to registered participants before the meeting.
Target audience:
The workshop is addressed to those U-Space Service Providers that are already having real plans to provide their services in U-space airspace in Europe.
Registration
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic this workshop will only take place virtually.
Attendance at this workshop is by invitation only and requires advance registration.
