New ICAO Aircraft CO2 Standard One Step Closer To Final Adoption

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) agreed Monday 8 February to the first ever global standards for CO2 emissions-reduction for aeroplanes. The deal will affect all new aircraft models launched after 2020 and all existing aircraft built from 2023, with a cut-off date of 2028 for planes that do not comply with the new standard.

EASA drove during the last 6 years the technical discussions which led to this agreement and supported the European Commission in the negotiations with European and international partners. The standards must still be approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization's governing council later this year. The standards will then become mandatory for national aviation authorities around the world.
