The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has updated its Safety Information Bulletin (SIB) on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Outage and Alterations Leading to Navigation / Surveillance Degradation.
SIB 2022-02 was first published on March 17, 2022 and the last update was Revision 3 on July 5, 2024. Revision 4 was published today, July 3, 2026.
The update follows analysis of recent jamming and spoofing related occurrences and build on the first deliverables from a dedicated joint EASA-EUROCONTROL task force on GNSS interference.
Highlights of the update are:
- Pilot-ATC phraseology (Appendix 1 of this SIB) to improve communications in such circumstances;
- Integration of Electronic Flight Bag technology;
- New operational and training requirements; and
- Air Traffic Control to ensure sufficient capacity.
EASA, together with EUROCONTROL, will continue to monitor and assess the situation. Stakeholders are encouraged to implement the recommended measures as soon as possible so as to mitigate the impact of GNSS jamming and spoofing on aviation safety.
The SIB is complemented by the dedicated EASA webpage on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Outages and Alterations which offers a list of affected regions that is updated on a weekly basis.
