The Agency issued a Type Certificate to Rolls Royce for the Trent XWB engine that is designed to power the Airbus A350-800/-900 XWB aircraft. This recognises that the XWB engine has demonstrated compliance with EASA’s certification requirements. Certification testing for the Trent XWB began in 2010 and involved 11 engines running for a total of more than 3,100 hours. A higher thrust version of the Trent XWB is currently under development for the Airbus A350-1000.
