IAM Implementation Forum 2026: From Rules to Reality
On 27–28 October 2026, EASA welcomed around 900 participants, onsite and online, to the second IAM Implementation Forum, bringing together regulators, industry and other stakeholders to discuss how Innovative Air Mobility (IAM) can move from regulatory frameworks to safe, scalable and sustainable operations.
Under the theme “From rules to reality: accelerating Innovative Air Mobility in Europe”, the Forum featured more than 50 speakers and 20 sessions, with dedicated streams on drones (UAS), U-space and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The discussions focused on three main areas:
- UAS operations: Simplifying cross-border operations, improving testing opportunities and enabling more complex drone operations through consistent regulatory approaches.
- U-space: Supporting the expansion of beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations, harmonising implementation and developing practical solutions for electronic conspicuity and airspace integration.
- eVTOL aircraft: Progress towards certification and entry into service, including challenges related to battery safety, fire protection, noise, maintenance and pilot training.
Across the Forum, participants also explored how to strengthen safety culture, improve occurrence reporting and make better use of the IAM Hub to support stakeholders.
The key message was clear: Europe has established the regulatory foundations for Innovative Air Mobility. The next challenge is turning these into practical, harmonised and economically viable operations.
Achieving this will require continued cooperation between authorities, industry and local communities, together with simpler processes, shared learning and practical solutions that support innovation while maintaining safety.
