Kigali hosts between 20-23 April 2026 the ICAO ESAF/WACAF Annual Environmental Workshop and the EASA 3rd Annual SAF Workshop under the ICAO–EU ACT-SAF Assistance Project.
Co-organised by EASA, ICAO, and the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority, this regional workshop brings together over 100 in-person participants and more than 200 online attendees from across Africa—highlighting strong engagement from countries like Rwanda, Kenya, and Nigeria.
The event goes beyond Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), also addressing key environmental initiatives in civil aviation such as:
• State Action Plans for CO₂ emissions reduction
• CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation)
Spotlight on SAF:
Sustainable Aviation Fuels offer a promising pathway to significantly reduce lifecycle emissions by replacing fossil-based kerosene. With multiple feedstocks and production pathways available, SAF presents an opportunity for countries across Africa to develop tailored solutions. However, scaling production and reducing costs remain critical challenges—making collaboration between governments, industry, and international partners essential.
This workshop aims to unite stakeholders across the SAF value chain to build a shared understanding of challenges and identify practical, scalable strategies for implementation.
Together, we move closer to a more sustainable future for aviation.
