Identification of issue
The intent of CS 25.777 is to require a standardized flight deck arrangement which reduces the likelihood that flight crews will inadvertently use the wrong controls. Specifically sub-paragraph (e) requires that the wing flaps control lever to be located aft of the throttles with the intent to:
- Minimize the risk that flight crews inadvertently activate the wing-flap or other nearby controls while operating the throttle and
- Enable both flight crew members to access and activate the wing-flap control without disturbing other controls, and
- Enable both flight crew members to observe the control lever positions from their seated position.
Certain flight deck designs may not comply directly with CS 25.777(e), for the wing flap control lever. Specifically, the flap control lever is not fully aft of the throttle quadrant.
In lieu of showing direct compliance with CS 25.777 (e), the compensating factors in 3) must be complied with by the proposed design in order to meet the intent of the requirement.
