The intent of CS 25.777 is to require a standardized flight deck arrangement which reduces the likelihood that flight crews will inadvertently use the wrong controls. Specifically, sub-paragraph (e) requires that the wing-flap controls be located aft of the throttle with the intent to:
(1) Minimize the risk that flight crews inadvertently activate the wing-flap control while operating the throttle and
(2) Enable both flight crew members to access the wing-flap control without disturbing other controls, and
(3) Enable both flight crew members to observe the controls position from their seated position.
Certain flight deck designs may not comply directly with CS 25.777(e) for the wing flap control. Specifically, the flap control is not located fully aft of the throttle quadrant.
In lieu of showing direct compliance with CS 25.777 (e), the compensating factors in Section 3 of the M-TS must be complied with by the proposed design in order to meet the intent of this CS paragraph.
