Airspace of Yemen, Sana’a Flight Information Region (FIR OYSC), all altitudes, except all routes located in the maritime part of FIR SANAA (OYSC) east of route B400.

Applicability
Applies to operators
Applicability Description

Air operators:
- subject to the provisions of Commission Regulation (EU) 965/2012, planning to conduct operations in the affected airspace (EASA operators); and
- third Country Operators authorised by EASA, when conducting operations under their TCO authorisation to, from and within the EU (TCO operators).

Description

This CZIB is issued based on information currently available to EASA, the European Commission and Member States in order to share information which is considered necessary to ensure the safety of flights over zones of interest and indicate areas of high risk.

The security situation in Yemen remains hazardous, characterised by recurrent high-intensity military operations, the involvement of Iranian-backed Houthi forces in the recent Middle East conflict, political instability, and the presence of violent non-state actors with access to advanced anti-aviation weaponry. As a result, the risk to operations within the airspace of Yemen, Sana’a FIR (OYSC), is assessed as HIGH at all altitudes and flight levels.

Since late March 2026, Houthi forces have conducted ballistic missile and unmanned aerial system (UAS) attacks against Israel as part of the Middle East conflict, demonstrating both capability and intent to conduct long range strikes. Such activity, combined with the presence and potential use of surface-to-air missile systems, increases the risk of misidentification and unintended engagement of civil aircraft.

The risk for all routes located in the maritime part of FIR SANAA (OYSC) east of route B400 (included) is assessed to be MEDIUM.

Recommendation(s)

Air operators should:

  1. Not operate in the airspace of Yemen, Sana’a FIR, at all altitudes and flight levels, except for all routes located in the maritime part of FIR SANAA (OYSC), east of route B400 (included), where operators are recommended to exercise caution at all flight levels.
  2. Closely monitor airspace developments in the region and follow all available aeronautical publications issued by Yemen, or on their behalf by the Aviation Authorities of the neighbouring States, including information shared through the European Information Sharing and Cooperation Platform on Conflict Zones, alongside available guidance or direction from their national authorities.
