As per the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, aviation fuel suppliers are required to comply with two obligations:
- Article 4 – Aviation fuel suppliers must supply gradually increasing volumes of SAF across the Union airports they are supplying jet fuel at. This obligation starts in 2025, with an obligation to supply a 2% share of SAF.
- Article 10 – Aviation fuel suppliers must report, by 14 February each year, information on the SAF and aviation fuel they supplied during the reporting period. This includes information on the amounts and characteristics of that SAF and aviation fuel.
EASA is currently supporting the European Commission in developing guidance material for aviation fuel suppliers with regard to both their SAF supply obligation (Article 4) as well as their reporting obligation (Article 10).
Reporting Templates
To fulfil their reporting obligations under Article 10, aviation fuel suppliers must complete the respective reporting templates. The reporting templates can be found in the main documents area of the European Commission’s ReFuelEU Aviation webpage.
The European Commission is currently developing a digital traceability database, the Union Database, which will eventually ensure traceability of all SAF volumes and facilitate the reporting process of aviation fuel suppliers in a digitised manner.
