Research Project 'Helicopter Underwater Evacuation #2 (HUE2)' — Final Dissemination Event

The Helicopter Underwater Evacuation #2 (HUE2) research project addressed Safety Recommendation (SR) 2016-016 from the UK Air Accident Investigation Branch (UK AAIB) report AAR 1/2016 on the accident to helicopter G-WNSB on 23 August 2013. An initial review of the nature of the research was commissioned by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2020. The results of the first HUE research project provided a comprehensive review of the available information on underwater escape, identified shortfalls, and recommended further work to rectify this lack of information.

Two of the highest-priority recommendations identified in the previous project have been addressed by this research project, namely:

• the maximum permissible forces required to operate underwater emergency exits, and
• the time required to perform an underwater escape from the passenger cabin with a full complement of passengers.

After a public tender procedure, EASA awarded a Consortium led by the UK Civil Aviation Authority International (CAAi) for the implementation of this project. The project team has now successfully accomplished all tasks and would like to invite you to the final dissemination event (webinar).

In this webinar, the project team from EASA and the CAAi will:

• introduce the research scope and objectives,
• summarise the research activities and main results,
• inform about the expected benefits from the project, and
• give the possibility for questions and answers.
