Technology Review of Alternative and Novel Sources of Clean Energy with Next-generation Drivetrains

Advanced propulsion technologies for cleaner skies
The global aviation industry produces around 2 % of all human-induced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Clean Sky is the biggest European research programme that develops advanced technology to reduce aircraft CO2 emissions and noise. The EU-funded TRANSCEND project is proposed by the Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR), a leading research entity in propulsion technology, in response to the Clean Sky 2 CfP9 goals. It intends to design the future of green aviation propulsion 2050 by evaluating alternative energy resources and advanced propulsion technologies for the aircraft industry. The project will assess the impact of alternative energy resources and novel propulsion technologies on the airplanes and the air transport sector that will enter service before 2050.
