EASA signs research contract funded by Horizon 2020 on the measurement of engine emissions

Under the contribution agreement signed in March 2020, the European Commission delegated Horizon 2020 funds to EASA for the management of urgent research actions. Following an open tender procedure, the Agency has now signed the sixth research contract under this agreement with a consortium led by INTA.

The objective of this project is to improve the ICAO Annex 16 Volume II engine emissions sampling and measurement requirements and to propose more robust design and measurement techniques.

The contract will be implemented over the next 4 years. EASA is acting as the technical and contracting authority.

The result of this research action will be used to strengthen the European contributions to the ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) and the Society of Aerospace Engineers International (SAE) Committee E-31 (Aircraft Engine Gas and Particulate Emissions Measurement Committee).
