The Airworthiness Task Force (AW TF), established in November 2022 under the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Technical Body (UAS TeB), is developing means of compliance (MoC) aimed at supporting, for specific assurance integrity level (SAIL) III operations, declarations of compliance to specific operations risk assessment (SORA) operational safety objectives (OSOs) linked with UAS design, therefore under the responsibility of the UAS designer. UAS to be operated in SAIL III should comply with design OSOs as per the final MoC published on this webpage, and their compliance should be declared by means of the associated declaration forms. Further instructions can be found in the MoC and in the declaration forms. In addition to complying with the final MoC, applicants are encouraged to:
- Apply the safe controllability tests defined by the published ASD-STAN prEN 4709-001; and
- Utilise the principles for design and production processes, specification and durability of materials, fabrication methods, mechanical strength and configuration control expressed in the Proposed MoC to OSO#2
- Utilise the principles expressed in the Proposed MoC to OSO#8 to draft their flight manual
The subjects of this consultation are only Proposed MoC to OSO#2 Issue 1 and Proposed MoC to OSO#8 Issue 1
Official comments to the proposed consultation papers are to be filed through the EASA Comment-Response Tool (CRT)
Applicants who, alternatively, intend to demonstrate SAIL III compliance with a functional test-based method, should contact their competent authority for guidance.
