In accordance with Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/358, SFCL.130 SPL - Training course and experience requirements paragraph (a)(2)(iv)(B)(a), the cross-country flight could be of at least 50 km is the student is without an instructor on board.
I am asking what means that 50 km cross-country flight? Out and return flight, straight distance or an optimized flight with not more than 6 legs?
The given definition is:
"cross-country flight means a flight outside the line of sight or distance defined by the competent authority from
the field of departure using standard navigation procedures."

50 km means at least 50 km straight flight within a departure and destination/turning point. So you can fly a straight flight of at least 50 km (evidence by IGC flight recorder) or an out and return flight which has at least one leg minimum of 50 km.
This is FAI rule for Silver Badge, not EASA for SPL

As most of thecompetent authorit did not defined a distance it means you fly away for 1 km at a hilly airfield and you will be out of line of site due to terrain. Fly 1 km long legs 48 times and go back. So the task (cross country flight) done. However in a flatland where the line of site is extended to 40-60 km?
Anyway! Why EU making rules, if member states does not follow them? I have a lot of experience from different CAA, different topocs, different rules. Latest from my CAA: PPL exam 202 questions. SPL exam 151 questions. Part FCL/SFCL say 120.
