Hi,

when studing the FCL Appendix 9 Training, skill test and proficiency check for MPL, ATPL, type and class ratings, and proficiency check for IRs, I ran across the question how to deal with the section 3a on a revalidating checkflight for a SEP(A) class rating. Since the items in 3a not marked with an "M" these items are not madatory (B 5. (e)) and B 5. (d) only talkes about type or multi-engine class ratingings.

So how are the items in 3a handeld in case of a SEP(A) VFR renewal or revalidation ?

Talked to several examiners and got differnet answers.

Thanks for any ideas.

It’s not applicable to SEP:
Section 3A shall be completed to revalidate a type or multi-engine class rating, VFR only, where the required experience of 10 route sectors within the previous 12 months has not been completed. Section 3A is not required if Section 3B is completed.

Thanks Patrick for your quick response.
I tend to agree but it would be much easier to argue if EASA would clearly state the "not applicability" of section 3a for SEP.

It is clearly stated in Appendix 9.
Quote:“ Section 3A shall be completed to revalidate a type or multi-engine class rating, VFR only, where the required experience of 10 route sectors within the previous 12 months has not been completed. Section 3A is not required if Section 3B is completed.“
