False Distress Alerts

Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs) and Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) are vital tools for saving lives. Do you understand the difference between them? Are you aware that the vast majority or Alerts are false ones that waste valuable resources.

PLBs are less prone to accidental activation because they require several deliberate actions to activate. They can also be taken with you if having to ditch in the water. ELTs require an impact to activate and will stop working if the aircraft sinks. If you have both, great, but a PLB is the minimum.
