A CPL with the class SEP needs a class 1 Medical for commercial flights

It is a common practice, to fly with a CPL with valid rating and class 2 Medical in the class SEP also as FI.

A first verbal feedback 2 years ago was, that LAPL medical and CPL license is o.k. for SEP up to 3 Pax, FI was not confirmed nor denied.

In an recent email, a colleague got the answer, that CPL with SEP and LAPL medical is an invalid combination.
This means, you have to return the CPL and apply for LAPL License and if you want to fly later with more than 3 pay again, you have to return the LAPL and apply for at least for a PPL.

In a consequent approach would the CPL require always a class 1 medical, or a combination with the LAPL medical should be acceptable as well.

What is today's EASA position?

Since 8 Jan 2019, when COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING REGULATION (EU) 2019/27 of 19 December 2018 came into effect, a class 1 medical is only required when exercising the privileges of a CPL. The CPL includes the privileges of the PPL, and with a class 2 medical a CPL holder may exercise those privileges.

Unfortunately another change is required before the same is true of a PPL exercising LAPL privileges.
