Dear pilots,

This is an important achievement! We have published the EASA opinions on Basic Instrument Rating and Gliders and Baloon pilot licences.

This work is the outcome of a successful cooperation with the stakeholders. Our special thanks to the Balloon and Gliding community !

As an Enroute IR holder I am glad to see that I will maintain my privileges by being converted to a BIR. :-) It's great to see some support for general aviation.

Julian ScarfeIf EIR holders seem to be able to get equivalence for some of the BIR modules and convert easily part of the rating, what will happen to those who are doing their EIR training and who have not passed the skill test yet?
- as BIR seems to be a modular approach with tests after each modules unlike EIR, what can be credited if one has not yet passed the skill test but the written test for exemple ? will they be some kind of equivalence for the theory in that case at least ?
- For those having not yet passed the EIR written exam but well advanced with the courses, will they have to enrol again into a BIR training course (doubling the training fees) for the theory ?
