Oriented towards Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flight, the Skyway Code is intended to provide GA pilots involved in non-commercial and flight training operations with practical guidance on the operational, safety and regulatory issues relevant to their flying. Pilots of all aircraft categories, powered or unpowered, should find it useful.

Dear Julian,
according to our understanding, a Member State's competent authority is entitled to issue certificates in the official language of that Member State, being an official language of the EU. An applicant who wishes or needs to present such a document to the competent authority of another Member State would be responsible for providing a certified translation, if necessary.

Since 8 Jan 2019, when COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING REGULATION (EU) 2019/27 of 19 December 2018 came into effect, a class 1 medical is only required when exercising the privileges of a CPL. The CPL includes the privileges of the PPL, and with a class 2 medical a CPL holder may exercise those privileges.
Unfortunately another change is required before the same is true of a PPL exercising LAPL privileges.

Which Benelux state are you talking about? As for Belgium, none of what you wrote is true. I am a holder of a Belgian licence and had it revalidated abroad twice, both times the FI wrote it directly into my licence and I sent the paperwork to the CAA. Moreover, as for ELP, it's the LAB who is responsible for announcing your assessment in advance, not you.

Some of you might remember that we recently ran a simulator experiment on VFR into IMC with 12 GA pilots from across Europe. We are currently working to put together all the material for our Safety Promotion activity.
In the meantime, Griffith University in Australia are currently doing some research into the same subject and have a survey on pilot behaviour. We have connected with the people running the research so we can link our two efforts.
It would be great to get as many pilots as possible to complete the survey.

Thank you very much, that's the best answer I could've wished for. I agree that the FAR rule isn't perfect. I suppose that's the difference between EU rules and the FAA's -- in the USA the rules have been stable for so long that everyone knows how they are to be understood.
