Hello ,

I have a question about destination alternate aerodrome route planning. İf you share your opinions I will be happy.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has published a Decision which proposes that air operators be allowed to reduce the amount of fuel carried during operations, thereby reducing the CO2 emissions of the overall flight and environmental impact of the flight.

Easa describes; Destination alternate routes shortly , it includes the amount of fuel required from missed approach -untill to landing.

İn terms of fuel efficiency / fuel Energy and also to reduce the impact of aviation on the environment, Shall we always add or planning  SID/STAR route for destination alternates routes? İf also two aerodrome very close distance?

You're not going to fly the SID at the alternate. Maybe the missed approach , if you're having a bad day. However, we do not even plan a route from destination to alternate that is RAD compliant with Eurocontrol, we rely on vectors. The short answer is no, but I am keen to see more input.

Hello, I would say safety first, CO2 emissions second. It is quite common alternates would be secondary, single runway airports. Do you realy want to commit to an airport like that with minimum fuel? 😬
Merry Christmas and stay safe everyone.

Hello Recep, according to point (d)(1) of AMC1 CAT.OP.MPA.181 the destination alternate fuel should cover the 'expected' departure routing, routing and arrival routing. If you can reasonably expect a specific alternate routing other than the SID/STAR (you frequently fly to that destination and you've already diverted to the alternate a couple times) why not consider this for the alternate fuel planning? If you do not have any information on the expected routing, you will probably be best advised to plan a more conservative fuel amount. Alternate season's greetings...
