High Representative of the Executive Director — Luc Tytgat

Luc TYTGATLuc Tytgat was appointed High Representative of the Executive Director in April, 2024. In this role, he will support Florian Guillermet, the new Executive Director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), during the transition period, offering strategic advice and representing EASA at high-level events.

Prior to this, Tytgat had spent seven months as Acting Executive Director of EASA, taking over the helm of the Agency at the end of the previous Executive Director’s 10-year mandate. He led the Agency with a steady hand, ensuring continuity of delivery on EASA’s mission. Good relations with stakeholders and the EASA Management Board were maintained, and the social climate within EASA also improved during this period.

Tytgat joined EASA in January 2015 as its Strategy and Safety Management Director. In this role, he successfully increased the level of safety intelligence and developed a better and more agile regulatory framework. He set the strategic direction for key challenges faced by the sector, such as the need to reinforce the Agency’s role in countering climate change and emerging safety risks, such as cybersecurity, conflict zones, and health. EASA’s research and innovation activities and the Agency’s engagement with stakeholders through international cooperation also expanded significantly under his guidance.

He was Director of the Pan-European Single Sky Directorate at Eurocontrol from 2011, having previously worked for more than 20 years in the field of air transport and space at the European Commission and 10 years in the Belgian Air Force.

Tytgat graduated from the Belgian Military Academy as Engineer in Aeronautics and also holds a master’s in Public Management from the Solvay Business School in Brussels.
