EASA-EUROCONTROL joint Action Plan for safe operations during GNSS interference
EASA and EUROCONTROL published a joint Action Plan designed to strengthen the safety and resilience of European aviation operations amid the growing challenge of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) interference.
"While the potential threat to aviation safety from GNSS interference has so far been mitigated by short-term actions such as raising pilot awareness, it is clear that more needs to be done" - Florian Guillermet, EASA Executive Director.
“GNSS interference remains a significant and evolving challenge for European aviation, making today’s Action Plan an important step forward in our collective response,” Raúl Medina, Director-General, EUROCONTROL

Key Elements of the Action Plan
- Joint monitoring and data-sharing to create a common European picture of interference events and improve detection, reporting, and situational awareness.
- Deepen understanding of interference patterns, operational impacts, and safety risks, so that guidance and responses are more consistent across Europe.
- Updated operational guidance will be developed for flight crews and air traffic controllers to help maintain safe operations in degraded navigation environments.
- EASA and EUROCONTROL will also work together more closely on investigating ongoing GNSS interference events.
- Faster information exchange between Member States, including better coordination where both civil and military aspects are involved.
- In the longer term, cooperation with aircraft manufacturers and the avionics industry will support the development of more interference-resilient avionics solutions.
The plan responds to growing concern among EU Member States and builds on input from international partners such as ICAO and IATA.
