Hi everyone,
I was wondering if someone knows what is the current status of American Champion aircraft in EASA, namely the Bellanca and Champion 8 (EASA.IM.A.297 and 298) - I cannot find their type certificate DS in the EASA list. I understand these were almost revoked in 2018, but American Champion paid the fees and resolved the issue.
On a related note, although it is relatively easy to find aircraft that are capable of delivering UPRT to ATPL students, it is not so easy to find one that at the same time can deliver the UPRT instructor course. There are amazing aircraft out there (unlimited category competition like the Extras, Zlin, etc.) but the tandem arrangement and the flying characteristics make it less than ideal for ATPL students. Does anyone have any suggestions on aerobatic aircraft that have good flying characteristics with side by side sitting?
Thank you all in advance!

Hi Jannes,
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question. However, I'm not sure I completely follow you - if the American Champion aircraft do not hold an EASA TC, how can they be listed in the EASA product page? Shouldn't they comply with Regulation (EU) 2018/1139? What happened to TCs EASA.IM.A.297 and 298? Are these aircraft type/models allowed to operate in EASA territoty?
Thank you again for your support!

Hi Daniel,
As you noticed already both TCs were not revoked at the end. As EASA does not publish TCs you can't find TC EASA.IM.A.298, However, as said the master document is the 'list of products'. It does list the 'Bellanca and Champion 8 series' and indicates the FAA TCDS A21CE to be used for registering and operating in an EASA Member State. We put a lot of effort in the 'EASA products list' to keep it correct and up-to-date.
Best regards,
Jannes
