Hi all,
I am Leo, working in DOA.
My understanding was that EASA FAQ are for information only (EASA opinion) and cannot consider or take credit on those answers, specially in initial airworthiness process as DOA design/certification/compliance decision making? Your thoughts are most welcome.
Thanks and regards
I am working for a NAA in the GA section and it is our daily business to answer questions related to regulations.
Regulations are complex, a simple Pilot/owner of a recreational airplane has to know nearly all regulations this is not realistic, so questions and tools such as FAQ or the community page are needed to fulfill our safety task.
But beside that, even we differences and problems to understand the regulation correct, they are not black and white.
So we all need legally correct interpretations and rule changes are simply not well in time.
So I would appreciate that FAQ are more than just an answer without position of the agency behind and we have a dedicated question – response focal available
Hi Leo.
FAQs are, in my personal view, extremely useful bits of information that clarify either the initial intention of the regulation or how it can be interpreted in specific scenarios that are not fully described in the published material.
I've used FAQs to show the intention of the regulator to NAAs on some of the grey areas of the regulations - these have always been accepted as valid as e.g. Guidance Material.
Being a DOA and directly approved by the Agency, I would believe this to be even less of an issue.
Perhaps to help from the EASA side. The Q&A are indeed not official information and we do our best to keep things updated continually. One of the reasons for this Community Site is to help provide direct answers wherever we can. It's not always possible to get hold of all the right experts right away but we coordinate responses between all the other activities.
Hope that helps - feel free to put things on here to start discussions or even drop us an email to safetypromotion@easa.europa.eu.

Hi Leo,
my experience is that people sitting in EASA are really ready to assist, sometimes much more than in many NAA.
