I can't find the requirement to have the Minimum Required Fuel in the Operational Flight Plan.
Both CAT.OP.MPA.181 and the AMC require us to have the Taxi, Trip, Contingency, Alternate, Final Reserve, Additional, Extra and Discretionary in the Operational Flight Plan but I can't find the requirement to have the Minimum Required Fuel there.What am I missing? Thanks

Pedro Duarte

You're not missing anything. Why should it be a formal requirement? You can have it if you want; it avoids the need to do the sums, but that's it. Makes sense to me that only the components are required.

Sergio Gonçalves

There is no requirement to have Minimum Required Fuel on the OFP, but indeed it makes the adding easier, when the crew wants to add Xtra or discretionary.

Hello, can you provide more background on why the question? EASA requires you to have an alternate airport within 1 hour of the flight time if its not possible to return to the departure gateway due to weather, thus your calculations might require an alternate and also additional fuel to make it to the alternate. For IFR and VFR flights, you need an alternate if at time of arrival you cannot perform an approach and landing under VMC or the site is isolated. It goes on and on and on, basically, you need to determine if you need an alternate and how much fuel is needed to make it to your alternate. Is this a helicopter?

From the FAA U.S.A perspective, the regulation 121.639 states the following: Are you trying to find the similar EASA regulation for flight planning?

121.639 Fuel supply: All domestic operations.
No person may dispatch or take off an airplane unless it has enough fuel—

(a) To fly to the airport to which it is dispatched;

(b) Thereafter, to fly to and land at the most distant alternate airport (where required) for the airport to which dispatched; and

(c) Thereafter, to fly for 45 minutes at normal cruising fuel consumption or, for certificate holders who are authorized to conduct day VFR operations in their operations specifications and who are operating nontransport category airplanes type certificated after December 31, 1964, to fly for 30 minutes at normal cruising fuel consumption for day VFR operations.

Hi, in my company we have a field in the OFP that has Fuel remaining that is the Minimum Fuel on arrival. But if you are referring to fuel before departure, we have the field Fuel on board that it is the minimum required for that flight.

Thanks a lot to everyone who replied to my question. I now understand that the Minimum Required Fuel in the Operational Flight Plan is not required to have but nice to have. Thanks again.
