Hello,
the German LBA has posted the following statement on their webpage:

"Note on skill tests/prof. checks CR/TR SPA exc. complex under VFR:

It is hereby clarified that for skill tests/prof. checks for TMG and aircraft with one pilot (except technically complex high-performance aircraft), maneuvers or procedures from all relevant sections of Appendix 9 shall be checked.
In the case of skill tests/prof. checks according to visual flight rules, at least one maneuver or procedure from section 3A must therefore always be completed."

Do you all agree with this statement ?

Many thanks for your opinion.

Appendix 9 marks some manoeuvers/procedures as mandatory ("M"). It follows reasonably that those not so marked are optional. None of section 3A is marked with "M". On the other hand appendix 9 also says that "applicants shall pass all sections." It seems strange that you could pass a section without performing any manoeuver/procedure of that section. So in the end Appendix 9 is not clear on what is actually required. The statement by the LBA is at least not unreasonable.

One has to look into the "Hinweise und Erläuterungen" (https://www.lba.de/SharedDocs/Downloads/DE/L/L3/03_00_01_A_105_CR_TR_no…) (Advices and Explanations). There, the LBA explains in detail when at least one of the items listed in section 3A has to be performed during a skilll/prof. check. I am not aware whether this document is available in english as well. However, since today Google Translate is working pretty well it should be quite easy to have it translated into German.

Hello Kalus-Dieter
thanks a lot for your input but in the "Hinweise und Erläuterungen" the only place where section 3A is mentioned is 5 d, which translates:

5 d.
Section 3A must be completed to renew a type rating or class rating for multi-engine aircraft — VFR only — if the required experience of 10 route segments within the last 12 months is not met. Section 3A is not required if Section 3B is met.

So what about single engine aircraft - VFR only - ?

I am propably picky on that subject but the LBA is it even more.

Thanks

Hi Maximilian, the table on p5 of the "Advices and Explanations" mentions that for a skill/prof check sections 1 up to and including 6 have to be completed. In addition, on p4 lit. e) it just says that all items marked with "M" need to be completed during a check. Thus, I would assume that therefore it is not required to perform at least one item of sec. 3A. Nevertheless, when I sign off a skill/prof check for a SE VFR only I always inclulde some items of sec. 3A (since you usually always do leave the traffice pattern at least for some of the exercises). By the way: Where is your initial remark published on LBA's website? I would like to take this up when attending my examiner's refresher being due soon. Tks Klaus-Dieter

Hallo Klaus-Dieter,

thanks for your comments.
The initial remark is published on the LBA webpage under
Luftfahrtpersonal - Prüfer - Aktuelles (second remark dated 01.03.2023)
