LAPL/PPL Training Course (theoretical knowledge):

I often read on websites of flight schools that it is necessary to have 100 hours of instruction time for theoretical knowledge (of which at least 10 hours have to be in a physical classroom). Is there any legal source about these numbers or is this just the generell interpretation of the syllabus scope? I could not find these numbers in Part-FCL. Thanks for your help!

I believe the 100 hour criteria has been removed, and anyway it would depend on experience. I’ve never heard of a minimum number of hours for classroom time.

Well I just found a remark in ORA.ATO.305 Classroom instruction (b) "The amount of time spent in actual classroom instruction shall not be less than 10 % of the total duration of the course." Not sure if it applies only for commercial or also for privat licenses.

Initially, at least 100 hours was a requirement in AMC1 FCL.210;FCL.215. It was removed around 2018.
If you want to confirm that, search the internet for ED Decision 2018/009/R.

ORA.ATO.305 should be the reason for the 10% requirement. As far as I understand, it is mandatory for all distance learning courses named in ORA.ATO.300.

Dear All,
These is very good question about which I am also wondering. As there are removed any requirements regarding amount of training and details of way how it could be provided, there is open question related to DTO. Regulation says that training could be provided as class room instructions or distance learning. The only reference to distance learning is reference to ATO, so the question is, could these requirements could be applied to DTO and if there is some guidelines what exactly distance learning mean for DTOs.

As I remember there is no 100 hours requirement, however our course is 136 hours. We do not do distance learning, it is all classroom, and barely enough. But for distance learning the 10 hours classroom is a requirement for sure.
