FAASTeam The Startle Response, Jan. 2020

How do you react in an unexpected emergency? Did you know a “startle response” that delays action or leads to the wrong action could turn fatal?
This month, learn how training can reduce startle response and prepare you for unexpected events.
Read more on the FAASTeam blog:

And if you want to dig deeper into the subject, have a look at the Startle Effect Management Research Study (primarily intended for CAT) published by EASA in 2018:

PS Nice to know - Do you expect animals to be startled too?
You'd be suprised!
Search e.g. "Cats and Cucumbers" on YouTube.
It's fun and will always remember what you will watch there...

A startled response is from an apologetic or one making excuses. A professional pilot has to be so prepared that surprise is non existent.

Mohammad, I disagree with your comment - I believe your understanding of startle response is flawed and outdated. Startle effect is real - it can be mitigated by appropriate training, experience and exposure (eg AUPRT). I highly recommend you read this article https://airfactsjournal.com/2020/10/startle-what-it-is-and-how-it-affec…
