Night Rating. The CAA has kindly introduced an extension for those who may have started Night Rating training before 11th November 2019. Provided that they complete the course before 31st March 2020, they will be exempt from the new 6 month limit. Incidentally, the ‘6 month’ time starts from the first date of night training which the applicant intends to use for the qualifying course. Also note that application for the rating does not need to be made within the 6 month period. We have also had some queries concerning Night Rating training during the PPL course; although we have proposed this to EASA, currently the situation remains that an applicant must have completed the LAPL or PPL course, including the Skill Test, before starting Night Rating training. Application for the LAPL/PPL does not need to have been made before training for the Night Rating has started - applicants may apply for the issue of the Night Rating together with the licence.
