Dear Part145 colleagues,
I need I cannot understand requirement GM2 145.A.30(e) related to “Knowledge on EWIS when relevant” for “Quality audit staff”.
Concerning mark “X”, it look likes EWIS is mandatory for “Quality audit staff”.
But what is the meaning of “….when relevant”?
In which cases EWIS is not mandatory for “Quality audit staff”?
For “Quality audit staff” working in approved maintenance organization with scope of base and line maintenance for passengers commercial aircraft is EWIS knowledge consider mandatory or not?
Thank you in advance for prompt answer.
EWIS is mandated for large fixed-winged aircraft, so their MRO QA staff need EWIS too.
However, helicopters don’t require EWIS - so their QA/Compliance staff don’t need it either!
Refer to EASA AMC20-22 Appendix B for Target Group 5
Kevin is correct in that the concept of EWIS was born out of transport aeroplane accidents, e.g. the Swissair MD-11 loss, and is therefore primarily aimed at "large aeroplanes" certified under CS-25 (and its equivalents). However, as most aircraft have electrical systems, and increasingly so with the continuing advancement of technologies, the principles effectively apply to all aircraft. Whether "Quality audit staff" in an AMO require the same level of knowledge as certifying/support staff is another questions altogether ...
Dear All,
thank you very much for explanation. I also consider EWIS as MUST for large aircraft but in last audit auditee refused that considering it was not clear documented by EASA. It is hard to put a finding for something which is not 100% clear defined.
Hi there colleagues, does anyone have news about the EASA AMC20-22 Appendix B?
In particular, I am interested about with ground OPS, handling, .... (Target group 6)
In my experience there is a a wide criteria about the application of it.
