At the closing of the meeting of the European Human Factors Advisory Group, a brief award ceremony took place that honoured the lifetime achievements of Dr. Bill Johnston. On behalf of the International Federation of Airworthiness (IFA), the Executive Director John Saull presented the Whittle Safety Award.
IFA established the IFA Whittle Safety Award to honour the global aerospace community’s most outstanding achievements in the field of air safety. The award honours the work of Sir Frank Whittle, father of the jet engine.
Bill Johnson is the FAA’s Chief Scientific and Technical Advisor for Human Factors in Aircraft Maintenance Systems. Bill has over 30 years applied research and development experience with a focus on human performance in maintenance and repair of complex systems. His research efforts concentrated on every day solutions that affect human behavior and performance.
