Personal development

At EASA we encourage our staff to take ownership of their career as to achieve their full potential through a variety of courses and learning resources (e.g. technical and language classes). Every year, we conduct a performance appraisal to review past performance, set future objectives and development goals, and discuss career aspirations. Our annual reclassification process rewards staff for their contribution to the organization's success. This involves nominating staff to the next higher grade in their function group as a recognition of their competency to perform at a higher level of responsibility.

Flexible working arrangements

Standard working time at EASA is, on average, 8 hours per day (i.e., 40 hours per week). EASA allows telework up to 3 days per week depending on tasks and within 130 km of Cologne or equivalent daily commute time. Staff can also telework outside this area for max. 10 days per year with manager approval. Office work and telework are considered equivalent. Staff can accumulate up to 2 hours of overtime per day and recuperate up to 2 days per month if the credit balance is justified and the recuperation request compatible with the interests of the service.

Attractive leave options

EASA offers 24 – 30 days annual leave per year + around 17 additional holidays (e.g. Christmas, Easter etc.). Our staff benefit from various special leave options such as for family reasons, years of service etc. In order to allow our staff to balance their professional and private life, we offer the possibility to work part-time under certain conditions. It is also possible to buy annual leave (“time credits”) by working full-time whilst being paid 50% of your salary over a certain period of time.

Pay

Officials and other staff of the European institutions pay a tax on their salary. This means, however, that your salary is not subject to national tax in any of the Member States.

Your salary is also weighted by applying a coefficient based on the cost of living in the country in which you are posted (the coefficient for Belgium and Luxembourg being 100). The various components of your pay are also adjusted every year equal to the weighted average adjustment of public sector salaries (net of inflation) in the Member States.

Staff who has been at one step in his/her grade for two years shall automatically advance to the next step in that grade given satisfactory performance.

The Agency has no permanent officials, but is staffed mainly by temporary and contract agents recruited through open selection procedures.

Temporary Agent

The initial duration of a Temporary Agent contract is usually 5 years with the possibility of renewal for an indefinite period. The probationary period is nine months.

Temporary agent contracts are classified into two function groups, depending on the type of position: administrator function group (AD) and assistant function group (AST).

Contract Agent

The initial duration of a Contract Agent contract is usually 3 years with the possibility of renewal for another 2 years. Any further renewal shall be for an indefinite period. In specific cases the individual contract duration may be limited to the length of the specific project the candidate will undertake. The probationary period is nine months.

Contract Agent posts are classified, according to the nature and importance of the duties, into two function groups: assistant function group (III) and administrator function group (IV):

  • Function group III corresponds to executive, drafting and accountancy tasks;
  • Function group IV corresponds to administrative, scientific, advisory, and linguistic tasks.

Schooling and Kindergarten

There are many primary and secondary schools in the Cologne, Bonn and Düsseldorf area offering international curricula and bilingual programmes

EASA has also signed service contracts with six international schools in the wider Cologne area. The Agency contributes to the payment of the school fees at the schools listed below:

We have reserved some seats in public Kindergartens. At times, the demand might be higher than the supply of places and there is a waiting list, so make sure you register your child as soon as possible. We will provide you with the relevant registration information when you have accepted a job offer.

Transportation

We contribute to an ever greener transportation, not only in the sky but also on ground. As of May 2023 our staff can benefit from a special corporate rate and receive the new Deutschlandticket. For a monthly price of 34 €, ticket holders can use all local transport and regional trains across Germany.
In addition, you can ask your name to be put on a waiting list to secure a parking space in the garage of our headquarters. For cyclists, parking places and showers are available.

Social Clubs and activities

We have a variety of social welfare activities and events such as Charity, Flying Club, Football, Hiking, Choir and many more. Together we celebrate special occasions (e.g., Carnival, Christmas gathering for EASA families).

During lunchtime many of us enjoy doing physical exercises in our multi-functional room (Yoga, Pilates). Also very popular: take some fresh air while going for a run or walk along the river during lunch break.

Did you know that we also have a band? The EASA Band
