Denis joined the French Air Force as fighter pilot in 1976. In 1987, he was detached to serve within the Navy and obtained all Navy fighter pilot wings on board aircraft carriers. Since then, he has held numerous positions including fighter squadron Commander, and performed several overseas operational detachments. In 2004, Denis received an assignment as Chief of Staff to the Air Forces Command and was nominated to Flag Officer in October 2005. He was promoted to Major General in 2009. Denis ended this military career, having received numerous decorations and awards, and joined SESAR Joint Undertaking in Brussels in May 2010, as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director.
Having joined EASA in March, as senior Military Advisor to the ED, Denis willbe the liaison between EASA and the military entities – at State level or with international organisations like EDA, OCCAR and NATO – in a variety of domains like for instance intelligence information, certification, rulemaking research, crisis coordination, support to relevant investigations. He must be seen as focal point for the Agency for all matters related to coordination and cooperation with military entities, e.g. operations, airworthiness, maintenance, drones and cybersecurity.
