Air Traffic covers a complex system that assist all aircraft:
- in flight; or
- operating on an aerodrome.
Air Traffic Management and Air Navigation Services (ATM/ANS)
The safe and efficient management of the Air Traffic in Europe consists of harmonised Air Traffic Management and Air Navigation Services (ATM/ANS) that include
- air traffic services
- communication services
- navigation services and
- surveillance services
- meteorological services for air navigation and
- aeronautical information services; as well as
- air traffic flow management
- airspace management
- network management functions
- flight procedures design and
- aeronautical database services for the purpose of air navigation
EASA’s role in Air Traffic Management and Air Navigation Services
- proposes European rules and standards and conducts standardisation visits to check compliance and uniform implementation of these measures in the area of ATM/ANS
- certifies and oversees organisations such as:
- ATM/ANS organisations providing pan-European services such as e.g. Network Manager
ATM/ANS organisations located outside the EU and providing services within the territory of the EU - Air Traffic Controller (ATCO) training organisations located outside the EU and, where relevant, their personnel, and providing training for EU ATCOs.
- coordinates activities to address aviation cybersecurity risks and interdependencies between safety and security (e.g. Conflict Zones)
