EASA to ensure Single Sky technology complies with highest safety standards
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the entity coordinating the Single European Sky Air traffic management and Research programme (SESAR Joint Undertaking) signed last week a cooperation agreement to secure EASA support regarding the implementation of the SESAR programme.
EASA expertise will cover domains such as certification assessment of future systems/services derived from SESAR concepts, methodologies for the acceptable elaboration of safety deliverables (safety cases, safety assessments...), review of these safety deliverables and issue of opinions, impact on the rulemaking procedures of the analysis of new concepts and oversight and certification activities of EASA. Additionally, EASA will provide input in different work packages and will participate in updating the Air Traffic Management Master Plan as well as the regulatory and standardisation roadmaps.
The participation of safety experts from Eurocontrol is expected to support EASA in this activity. The cooperation agreement has now been sent to Eurocontrol for acceptance.
